solar masonry home

The home plan was designed
to take full advantage of
passive solar energy for
heating. The major living
functions align along the south
facing masonry wall with tall
and deepset windows at
regular intervals. The window
glass used is the latest
technology with strong and
efficient fiberglass frames. The
floor is an insulated concrete
slab which will absorb the
incoming solar energy and
store it for release at night.
The residence even has a
large, european inspired, solar
bathroom. Solar light and heat
floods into the bath through a
high band of windows and is
reflected and absorbed by the
interior glass block dividing
partitions. The design of the
south facade also includes
passive shading to restrict the
unwanted summer sun from
entering.
